Pago de Los Balagueses is legally classified as D.O.P. Vino de Pago, a prestigious appellation granted to only twenty of Spain’s most elite vineyard sites to date. The estate is situated within walking distance of the Solana de Las Pilillas, a historic site where ancient Iberians were crafting wine as early as the 5th century BC. Although modern technology allows us to achieve superior and more reliable quality today, Bodegas Vegalfaro carries forward many best practices that originated with the people who farmed this land more than 2,500 years ago: excellent vineyard sites in natural settings, organic viticulture, and gentle, gravity flow winemaking.

About the winery

Ancient Terroir. Organic Viticulture. Fine Wines. A family run winery with tradition and passion for what we do.
Andrés Valiente and his son Rodolfo formed Viñedos & Bodegas Vegalfaro in 1999. The name Vegalfaro comes from a combination of the word “vega,” meaning a lowland meadow or stretch of alluvial soil, with the historic name of their winery property, Casa Alfaro.
Since then, Rodolfo Valiente has strived to develop a distinctively personal wine style at Vegalfaro, always built around organic practices and the willingness to combine tradition with innovation in search of optimal terroir expression. Bodegas Vegalfaro produces wines in three Denominaciones de Origen: D.O.P. Pago de Los Balagueses, D.O. Utiel-Requena and D.O. Cava. All Vegalfaro wines are certified Organic by the European Union.
